#1 Case: Disabled Veteran - Homebound
Age:          77-Veteran but Reverse Mortgage calculation on spouse's age -73
Market:      Sunbury, Pennsylvania
Need:        The client was a Vietnam War Veteran who was homebound due to a chronic problem with his right leg which recently had caused him to use a wheelchair full-time. In order to move in and out of the house freely, there were a few modifications that needed to be made to the house.

The usually independent Veteran applied to the government to give him a grant allowing him to make the necessary modifications to his home.

Waiting for close to a year with no end in sight, the client started looking at other options to finance the costs of the modifications. This is when the client called Reverse Ultra to get educated on the process of obtaining a Reverse Mortgage loan.

Financial:    As of January 2008:
  • Home appraised for $103,000
  • Cash Available = $73,000
  • Initial Interest Rate 4.33%
  • Existing Mortgage of $22,000 was paid off
  • Initial Cash Drawn by client $5,000
  • Available Balance Growing in Line of Credit (LOC) $35,000
Solution:     After carefully considering other alternative options, the client decided to move ahead with the Reverse Mortgage. He was very happy with how easy we, at Reverse Ultra, made the process and compared it to the arduous process of getting a govt. grant. He was quick to point out that though the Reverse Mortgage is a govt. backed program, it didn't act like or take as long as a govt. program customarily takes to qualify for and close.

We closed on the Reverse Mortgage about 16 days after taking the initial application and the client had his money to use for the much-needed ramp construction. He cried when he was able to go out again and regain his independence.
